P(ublio) Etereio P(ubli) f(ilio) Q(uirina) Quadrato / Etereia Aristolais mater / statuam posuit / ob cuius dedicat(ionem) col |
Translation |
For Publius Etereius Quadratus, son of Publius of the Quirina. Etereia Aristolais , his mother, has erected (this) statue for the dedication of which she has given to the association of the centonarii the customary banquet. Likewise, she has given 1050 (?) denarii (= 4200 sesterces) so that from the interest of these they would each year for ever on the birthday of Quadratus, the 5th day before the ides of April, make a sacrifice of geese (?) and cake on the place where his mortal remains are buried and hold the customary banquet in the temple and bring roses and clean and crown the statue

Notes on the source |
Inscription lost, recorded in two manuscripts (16th – 17th c.).
The manuscripts read 'ITEM X I L ' with the X barred through clearly as a denarius sign and with the I having a bar above it L. The reading L (milia) is clearly wrong, but the the reading 1050 is also doubtful. CIL prefers [---]L, leaving open all possibilities.
