| Notes |
This inscription documents an architectus navalis, it does not directly attest a collegium of fabri navales. Since, however, we know that such a collegium existed in Arles, it is likely that the architectus navalis was a member or at least was connected to it.

| Notes on the source | dated by CIL to second century (paleography 'bonis litteris'), by CAG to first century (no arguments). Archeological data (ceramics) seem to date the start of the developpement of the Trinquetaille quarter (where this inscription was found) to the reign of Domitian. So a second century date (or later?) seems more likely. The absence of a praenomen similarly points to second century or later. The simplicity of the inscription contrasting with the expensive marble and careful carving suggests rather second than third century. (Verboven) |
