The tria nomina and the tribus suggest a date not too far in the third century, as does the brevity of the inscription. The double gentilicium and the 'hederae distinguentes' suggests an post quem date under the Flavians or later.

Notes The local notable in whose honour the 'collegium' sets up a statue was an 'alumnus' of an important local aristocrat (Nicols 2014; Jacques 1983: 330-331), his second gentilicium Ummidius shows a maternal connection to the prominent senatorial family of the Ummidii Quadrati, whose hometown was Casinum (Syme 1968). Curiously, however, his tribe, the Palatina, differs from that of this stepfather (the Teretina--the tribe of Casinum) and indicates a freedman descent. So it seems that L. Luccius L. f. Pal. Ummidius Secundus was the son (or grandson) of a freedman of the elite family of the L. Luccii and member of the Ummidii Quadrati, possibly also a freedwoman.
