His father has started his career as a carpenter/builder, rising through the ranks of the 'collegium fabrum tignuariorum' until, eventually becoming its patron and being made a 'sevir augustalis'. Secundianus father had already become a barge skipper on the Rhone and was appointed 'praefectus' of that corporation.</div>
